Mumsy's Caribbean Food Truck Information

Tucked along the busy stretch of S Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte, Mumsy's Caribbean Food Truck stands out with the kind of vibrant energy you can almost taste before you even step up to the window. The location at 4276 S Tamiami Trl might not scream tropical escape at first glance, but the aromas drifting from the truck quickly change that perception. It’s the kind of spot locals talk about in passing, often followed by a knowing nod that suggests you’re in for something special.

The menu leans heavily into authentic Caribbean comfort food, with staples like jerk chicken, curry goat, and oxtail drawing regulars back week after week. The jerk chicken, in particular, delivers a satisfying balance of smoky heat and deep seasoning, clearly marinated with care rather than rushed for convenience. Rice and peas come fluffy and flavorful, while the fried plantains add that perfect hint of sweetness to round out the plate. Portions are generous, and everything feels cooked fresh rather than sitting around waiting to be served.

What really adds to the experience is the casual, no-frills atmosphere. This isn’t a sit-down restaurant with polished decor; it’s a food truck that thrives on its simplicity. You order at the window, maybe chat briefly with the staff, and then either take your food to go or enjoy it nearby. Despite the laid-back setup, the service is warm and welcoming, often with a personal touch that makes first-time visitors feel like returning customers. It’s clear the people behind the counter take pride in what they’re serving.

Reviews from the local community tend to highlight consistency, which is often the hardest thing for small food operations to maintain. Whether it’s a weekday lunch or a busy weekend afternoon, the flavors hold up, and that reliability builds trust. While seating options are limited due to the food truck setup, most customers don’t seem to mind, especially when the food speaks for itself.

There isn’t an overwhelming amount of online information compared to larger establishments, but that almost adds to its charm. It feels like a hidden gem you discover rather than a heavily marketed destination. For anyone exploring Port Charlotte’s food scene or craving something outside the usual American fare, this spot delivers a flavorful detour that feels both authentic and satisfying.

What People's Say About Place

Best oxtail gravy i’ve ever had! The oxtail had a ton of meat on them, the plantains were flavorful and soft, the rice super delicious, and the mac and cheese mouth watering. Make sure you text him before coming to ensure everything is in stock, he goes out quick!

First time here!! Wow absolutely amazing!! Mike we appreciate the great customer service even tho we showed up right before you closed. I had the pork plate with slaw and potato salad. He has the mumsy bowl. Great combination of flavors together. All of it was perfect. And the mango pineapple sauce.. well how much would u charge for like a quart size of it? Thank you again for everything and we will be back soon

So good as absolutely amazing. So amazing that I regularly crave it. Specifically a mumsy bowl! However, I'm currently eating at another food truck because for the 2nd time in two weeks I have went to Mumsys when they are supposed to be open and no one is there. Very disappointing to discouraging.

First time here, guy was really nice running the truck. Never had oxtail so wanted to see what all the hype was about, food is delicious and fair prices! Will definitely be back.

I’ve driven past this place numerous times telling myself I’d stop by. After finally stopping in I am upset with myself I didn’t come earlier. EASILY the best Caribbean food around! The oxtail, immaculate, jerk chicken bowl and plate, phenomenal. Going back again today just for the rice and peas. It would be disrespectful to only label the experience a 10/10!

They gotta be GOOD PEOPLE.. I gave 5 stars for atmosphere although I ordered delivery because I can feel DE VIBES in the atmosphere without even being there! They didn’t have what I ordered but generously made up for it after they attempted to get in touch with me. More restaurants need to be like this that use delivery services. They even provided a courtesy note! PS the FOOD was everything. First time ordering off a whim and it hit every taste bud in my mouth! Big up, Mumsy! Will be supporting in person with pleasure ASAP. Don’t miss out! Wish they were open on WEEKENDS!

I have been seeing the Mumsy's truck around and just hadn't had a chance to stop by. I'm sorry I waited so long. The food is amazing and they give you a super generous helping. I had the pulled pork and my wife loved the oxtail. The service is amazing. It's my new go to spot when we have a special meal on Fridays. I would give them more than 5 stars if Google would let me!!!!

Great people and you won’t find better Carribean food anywhere else in town. Trust me I’ve had them all. This place takes the cake! And it’s a food a truck! You guys are literally out here doing better than these brick and mortar places! If you aren’t sure what to order here’s my go. But be warned, the rice has a little bit of kick to it. But I mean come on, if you’re getting Carribean food, you like spice! Haha I always get this plate though— Jerk chicken with blueberry guava sauce Mac n cheese Rice and beans
